| Help Dr. Vlachos and Dr. Lipton improve studies on DBA |
| ATTENTION DBA PATIENTS AND FAMILIES!!! Dr. Lipton and Dr. Vlachos need OUR help!! In order to recieve a grant from the NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF HEALTH to conduct further GENE TESTING, they need 40-50 more DBA patients and their parents to give samples of their blood. The resulting DNA will be banked in a repository and be available for further testing, including testing for gene 19 and 24, currently being tested for. They must reach their goal of 90 total patients by Spring-Summer 2007, or else they may lose their grant possibility all together!! NIH has already extended their deadline!! From Dr. Vlachos: "The DBA Registry has set up a DNA Biorepository to collect blood samples on DBA patients and their families. They hope to use these samples to look for more genes that cause DBA. Once the genes are discovered then a cure through gene therapy or through better understanding of the disease process which may lead to the development of new targeted medications. They are urgently looking for patient samples. Please contact the DBAR via the website (www.dbar.org) or calling our toll-free line at 1-888-884-DBAR. They will send you a consent form, and once signed and returned, they will send the blood tubes that need to filled and returned. Please help with this effort. In such a rare disease every patient plays a crucial role. It may be your blood sample that unlocks the key to DBA." The person to contact for further information is: ELLEN MUIR.
